Fall Life Hacks

With Fall finally here and Halloween just around the corner, people love figuring out creative ways to decorate. Most of the time people’s go-to decoration is pumpkins. Here are a few fall life hacks that you can do to help decorate for Halloween.

Preserve Your Pumpkin

Pumpkins are the number one Fall and Halloween decoration. But they seem to become gross and deteriorate pretty quickly. Well when you find your perfect pumpkin, you can spray a special concoction on it to help preserve it. Mixing one part bleach with 10 parts water and spraying this all over the pumpkin will preserve it. Then you can set the pumpkin anywhere and watch how much longer it takes to deteriorate. You can even have fun with this experiment and get two pumpkins. Spray one with the special concoction and leave the other one alone. See how much longer the sprayed one lasts than the other.

Make Carved Pumpkins Last

Here is another way to deal with pumpkins. Unlike the outside, the inside will rot a LOT faster if exposed to oxygen and not taken care of properly. Here is a simple life hack to actually preserve the inside of the pumpkin too! If you have any petroleum jelly sitting around, grab it and rub it on the exposed areas of your pumpkin. The jelly acts as a barrier to bacteria and will keep your toothless, smiling pumpkin preserved for longer.

Bake Bugs Out of Pinecones

Pinecones are homes to many insects that like to camp out inside them without being seen. Before you decide to grab pinecones and use them as decorations, make sure to bake them in the oven to kill all of the insects on the inside. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees, layer a cookie sheet with tin foil, and then place all of your pinecones spread out onto the sheet. Bake for 20 minutes and then you can happily use the pinecones for decoration without having to worry about those pesky bugs.

The Cristian Rivera Foundation’s main goal is to spread awareness of DIPG and help raise support for families in need. But we also love to share amazing ideas on how to find fun through these times.
