Did you know that September has been Childhood Cancer Awareness Month since 2012?
During this unique month, organizations bring people together to find new treatments and honor children with cancer, childhood cancer survivors, cancer angels, and all of the caregivers who are dedicated to improving the lies of children and young adults with cancer.
The gold ribbon is an international awareness symbol for Childhood Cancer. Unlike other cancer awareness ribbons, which focus on a singular type of cancer, the gold ribbon represents all forms of cancer affecting children and adolescents; the color gold also symbolizes how precious children are and the resiliency of childhood cancer heroes.
For many, the month of September represents the end of summer, the beginning of autumn, and the start of the season of harvest. However, September is a month of remembrance at the Cristian Rivera Foundation.
Cristian’s birthday is on September 13th, and it is the time for us to remember him and recognize how we have made an impact on the lives of DIPG children and families. The September edition of the CRF newsletter is dedicated to Cristian, who would have been 20 years old this year, but his spirit continues to touch the world in so many ways.
We appreciate each member of our community who has contributed their time, finance, energy, and supported us all along this journey to make a difference in the lives of so many DIPG children and families. Cristian would have loved to see so many people coming together to fight for a common cause in his name.
