Two important organizations that are currently making a difference in the DIPG community are The Marc Jr Foundation and the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation. Both of these organizations have teamed up to provide support for parents who have lost a child to DIPG. This bereavement group gets together over a monthly group call and offers a casual setting for parents to support one another and share their stories. They hope to help each other heal and offer a safe space for discussion.
The virtual group will be hosted by Jessica Elder, a social worker from the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation, and Lynette Apodaca from the Marc Jr Foundation. The monthly call will be offered through Facebook Messenger and participants will have the option to join with or without cameras. To attend, you must be a member of their private Facebook community. Please consider joining their Facebook group using this tinyurl.com/y6lyqra9 and signing up via their page.
The Marc Jr Foundation’s mission is to fund research toward a cure for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, offer assistance to families facing DIPG, and build more awareness around it. The Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation’s mission is to improve the treatment, quality of life, and the long-term outlook for children and families affected by a brain or spinal cord tumor.
