CONCEPT:The Cristian Rivera Foundation is a non-profit organization that is committed to finding a cure for Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). Our foundation strives to fund medical facilities that conduct innovative research and clinical trials, increase public awareness of DIPG, and provide financial support to families. Through its efforts, the Cristian Rivera Foundation has helped support the groundbreaking research that has brought the medical community to the doorstep of a cure for DIPG. The Cristian Rivera Foundation funds the work of Dr. Mark Souweidane, Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery of Weill Cornell Medical Center – Memorial Sloane (Kettering) Cancer Center and Dr. Oren Becher of Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital. DIPG is a rare, nearly inoperable brain stem tumor that predominantly affects children between the ages of 2 and 10. The Cristian Rivera Foundation was founded in 2009, after the founder’s son, Cristian, died of DIPG when he was six years old. The Cristian Rivera Foundation has made an eternal commitment to curing this rare form of cancer so that no child or family has to suffer through the horrors of DIPG again. To date, the Cristian Rivera Foundation has donated nearly $2.5 million dollars to the respective doctors, as their work remains at the forefront of DIPG research, to DIPG families in need and to creating awareness…but we need your help to continue this amazing work. Awards will be given to top qualifiers of the 5K. As we enter the second phase of the clinical trial, we rely on generous supporters like you to help defray the cost of organizing the event. Our 6th Annual Full Steam Ahead CRF 5K is just another vehicle to bring us all together to accomplish one goal, giving our children an opportunity to fulfill their dreams by curing DIPG. There are various levels of sponsorship for the 6th Annual Full Steam Ahead Cristian Rivera Foundation 5K which are stated on the following page. As a direct result of funding from the Cristian Rivera Foundation, Dr. Souweidane successfully launched a pioneering FDA-approved clinical trial on May 1, 2012, which tests the innovative use of convection-enhanced delivery (CED). It’s the first of its kind to administer radioimmunotherapy to children with an otherwise incurable tumor and has shown successful results to 4 children so far. One of our clinical trial patients, Lisha Ayala, has reached a groundbreaking milestone by reaching the 10-year mark with no growth in her tumor. She is now living the life of a normal teenager and has given the DIPG and medical community hope that we are close to a cure. The Cristian Rivera Foundation is continuously working hard to create awareness, fund groundbreaking research, and trials, and economically support families impacted by DIPG. As a result of our hard work, The Cristian Rivera Foundation was awarded a Platinum Seal on GuideStar.org for 5 years. GuideStar.org is the non-profit industry leader in analysis and public information and issues its rating based on transparency and positive activity conducted in the non-profit community. In addition, the Cristian Rivera Foundation received the Top-Rated Great Nonprofits Award from Great Nonprofits 6 years in a row, and Guide Star Platinum 5 years in a row. Our foundation takes pride in the work we do, and we’re honored to have received such prestigious awards. Take a stand against DIPG. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to eradicating our world of DIPG with your help. Deadline for Sponsorship must be in before Monday, May 15, 2023, at 5 p.m. |
