John immediately contacted Allen´s mother.

John then called The Cristian Rivera Foundation Board of Directors
Andy Epstein, Darlene Rodriguez & Craig Serra and they all agreed
we need to help.

Cristian Rivera Board Members Darlene Rodriguez, Andy Epstein and Craig Serra to Support CBTP Summer Research

mark-souweidane-darlene-rodriguez-cristian-rivera-foundation-gala-330 mark-souweidane-andy-epstein-john-rivera-cristian-rivera-foundation-330 img_7418

Darlene Rodriguez, Anchor of “Today in New York” on WNBC, and Andy Epstein, CEO of B&A Food Brokers, both members of the board of the Cristian Rivera Foundation, have each stepped up to support the summer research initiative at the Children’s Brain Tumor Project. The board members will contribute $5,000 each to the “summer sprint” in the CBTP lab.

For three months this summer, five summer fellows and scholars will test multiple drugs and drug combinations against pediatric brain tumor cell lines growing in our lab and in mouse models. These five researchers have been awarded grants from St. Baldrick’s, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, the AANS/NREF, and the Samuel Jeffers Foundation — but those grants cover only stipends to the researchers, not the significant expenses this work will entail. The researchers will need reagents and other supplies, mice, and tech support, among other things, all of which will be paid for by generous donations from Cristian Rivera Foundation board members.

These new gifts are in addition to the previous summer support from the Cristian Rivera Foundation that was provided thanks to a third board member, Craig Serra. The combined gifts from Craig, Andy, and Darlene make possible the accelerated research this summer will bring. We are so grateful to the Cristian Rivera Foundation and its unfailingly loyal board members for their support.

BronxNet will honor TODAY Show contributor, Bronx native & Cristian Rivera Foundation Committee Member – Darlene Rodriguez at its 20th anniversary service and achievement awards luncheon

darlene30b-1-web

She’s an award-winning journalist who contributes to a morning show viewed by millions.

But “TODAY Show” journalist Darlene Rodriguez is a Bronx gal at heart — who got her start 20 years ago as a cub reporter covering stories uptown for BronxNet, the local public access channel.

The Soundview-born, Morris Park-raised newsreader will join Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. and Lehman College President Dr. Ricardo Fernandez as honorees Thursday at the public access channel’s 20-year anniversary.

“They gave me a great opportunity,” Rodriguez told the Daily News Tuesday. “They have hard working, passionate people who are trying to produce good television. I felt that passion from the beginning, and I admired them.”

Rodriguez, a married mom of three now based in Westchester, said she recalled reporting on the closing of iconic department store Alexander’s on Fordham Road — and freezing up and spouting jibberish amid a scrum of reporters with then Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer.

“I was terrified,” said Rodriquez, an anchor of Today New York, the local NBC morning show and a contributor to the nationally broadcasted TODAY Show. “And Fernando Ferrer, being as kind as he was, he turned to me and gave me an answer.”

Housed on the Lehman College campus, BronxNet has morphed into a six channel media entity that offers production training in addition to local news, politics and arts programming.

“It’s tremendously exciting to serve the people of the Bronx as we grow,” said Michael Max Knobbe, BronxNet’s executive director. “Darlene is a shining example of how the workforce opportunities that BronxNet provides can result in someone being a media leader and role model.”

The bracelet received a great reception upon its debut and has already seen on the wrist of New York Yankee greats CC Sabathia and Alex Rodriguez, as well as Hot 97’s Angie Martinez, Danielle Staub of The Real Housewives of New Jersey and celebrity chefs Ricardo Cardona and Alex Garcia, both of whom are committee members of the Cristian Rivera Foundation.
