Bio -

Robert Vazquez is a marketer, philanthropist and writer. Born in Spain and raised in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx, Vazquez was raised only by his mother, a retired detective with the NYPD. He grew up with a determination to better himself and his community, and that drive helped him rise through the ranks of a large sports marketing and memorabilia firm. Vazquez signed deals and created product lines for likes of Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams, James Gandolfini, Hideki Matsui, Brett Gardner, Hank Aaron, Tony Hawk, Muhammad Ali, Joe Namath, David Ortiz, and Jay-Z to name a few. He also coordinated the first public signings for Miguel Cotto and Carlos Beltran in New York. After leaving that job, he went on to own a very successful restaurant in the Bronx. In 2012, Robert sold the restaurant to pursue his passion for writing and working on creative projects. Robert recently inked a publishing deal with Mascot Books, and will be releasing a children's book in the fall of 2012 about his experiences of being raised in the Bronx and his love of the New York Yankees.

But more than his professional accomplishments, Vazquez is proud of his charitable efforts. In addition to the Cristian Rivera Foundation, Vazquez also serves on the boards for the Bronx YMCA & Moving Mountains. His philanthropic endeavors span both the globe and the neighborhood. He coordinated celebrity auctions for victims of the Asian Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina, as well as a 2009 Toy Drive in the South Bronx and a 1,000-book donation to students at P.S. 55 in the Bronx, where he served as Principal for a Day.

Statement -

Growing up in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx, I had two main objectives. The first was to maintain focus and direction and make something of myself. The second goal was to make a positive contribution through service and as a role model in order to make a difference in my community.

John Rivera was a role model for me when I was coming up.  He came from the same community as me. He was focused and became a pioneer in the entertainment industry.  I saw his contributions and knew that despite the adversity I faced, I could make it and do anything I wanted.

Being a part of the Cristian Rivera Foundation is not only an opportunity to work alongside an inspirational figure in my life, but also an opportunity to raise awareness and educate the masses on Pontine Glioma...and hopefully find a cure for this disease.  I know that I can't do it alone but working as a team, I'm confident we will achieve our goal of eradicating this disease.
